Company Background:
Sepon is an open-pit and underground gold and copper mine located in Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR. The mine is operated by Lane Xang Minerals Limited Company (LXML). Chifeng Jilong Gold Mining Co., Ltd holds a 90% stake in LXML, while the Lao Government owns the remaining 10%.
Services Provided:
ESL is conducting both the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and the Health Impact Assessment (HIA).
Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA):
- Investigate the study area affected both directly and indirectly by the proposed project.
- Characterize the physical, biological, social, and economic characteristics of the project area.
- Assess the potential environmental and social impacts of the project components.
- Identify land, infrastructure, and other assets that may be impacted or lost due to project construction.
- Propose measures to control and mitigate the identified impacts.
- Engage with the public and stakeholders to present the project and the environmental and social impact assessment process, including mitigation measures, through public consultations as required by Decree 389/GOL.
Health Impact Assessment (HIA):
- Collect and analyze baseline and secondary data on the health status of people in and around the project area.
- Identify and assess the potential negative and positive impacts of the project on the health of individuals and communities.
- Develop management measures to prevent, avoid, or minimize any negative health impacts, while maximizing health benefits arising from the project.
